Camino 2018 - Days 22-28

Day 28 – Biduedo to Sarria

We descended into the fog this morning from the high village of Biduedo, walked through amazing valleys, and ended the day in Sarria.  With just over 100 kilometers left to Santiago, this city is a popular starting point for pilgrims looking to complete the minimum distance to earn their compostela…so there was a noticeable influx of new pilgrims at the restaurants and cafes as we walked into town.

With our dirty boots, tanned faces and slightly disheveled gear, we expected to make quite an impression on these naive rookies as we walked into town.  We were well-prepared to fend off their admiration and questions…and somehow…no one seemed to notice us.  We will be sure to cruise past them tomorrow.

The scenery today was stunning…like something out of a story book or movie.  We agreed that certain hills, meadows and lanes looked like they were straight out of the set of “The Princess Bride”.  Of course, this led to a long debate between us over the best scenes and lines from the classic movie.  (This will require a future, separate, clip-heavy “Top 5 Scenes” post.)  We did agree that the hill photo in the bottom right quadrant above was “the most similar location” to a famous scene in the movie.  Most romantic movie arguments end with a passionate embrace…not a grunting tumble down a steep hill.  Classic indeed.

We have renewed energy this week as we approach our final five days on the Camino.  We just completed 4 full weeks of walking and looking forward to seeing family and friends soon.  A quick video greeting…
