Béisbol

Yesterday, we had no wifi or cell service. When’s the last time that happened to You??

So, Dave & I began an earnest discussion of baseball. The Detroit Tigers are not starting well.  NY Yankees are mediocre. Boston Red Sox seem to be on fire!

I love baseball. Born and raised in Richmond, VA, the Richmond Braves were a AAA farm team to the Atlanta Braves. We went to lots of local games and even to Turner Field a few times to cheer them on. However, in the late 90’s, I began to get disillusioned with the team. Andy Pettitte (starting pitcher with the Yankees) interviewed on NBC Today and, combined with the addition of Derek Jeter, the decision was made. I had my new team.

Fast forward to the present: living in NYC the last year has been fun & exciting! We have seen a few games….. Now it is all about Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton. Could another World Series be in play?
Even more exciting, Amy is working with the Yankees organization and can (hopefully) get me some tickets.  🙂

Dave, however, is a diehard Tiger fan. Growing up in Detroit, and most of the family still in Michigan, he is loyal to his hometown teams and I love that about him. Attending games and cheering along is a lot of fun! Tigers, Lions, and Red Wings…. win or lose, he’s all about it!

So, this afternoon, when we arrived at our new destination and were finally able to check our respective devices, here is what I saw on FB:

Braxton Bew
Leo Smith

Great-nephews from both sides being raised in Baseball loving families!

On the Camino, feeling far away from family and a bit disconnected, what can make you feel like you’re still a part of the real world?

  1. Dave should be wearing his Seattle Mariners t-shirt sent by his friend in the Pacific NW. My team is off to a great start this season!

    1. I do like the M’s…ever since the night we attended and saw how Mariners fans treated Ichiro on the day he was traded to the Yankees. Stay classy, Seattle.

    1. Susie, I like Scherzer (because he used to pitch for the Tigers)…but I struggle to like Harper. I must respect his talent…but for some reason…the hair bugs me,

  2. Glad to see Dave has remained loyal to his Motown roots, unlike one of our siblings, who will remain nameless.

    1. How could anyone abandon the team of the old English D, Ernie Harwell, and Al Kaline? Hard to believe, though, that the current gap between Tigers’ World Series titles is now 10+ years more than the gap between the 1945 and 1968 World Series titles.
